We often view progress as the answer to our obstacles. Still, it's important to remember a basic truth: having more advanced technology doesn't automatically "solve your problems or learning problems." This idea is especially relevant as we explore the possibilities of artificial intelligence (AI) in Learning and Development (L&D), which has lately become the buzzword.

The appeal of technology lies in its design and user interfaces. Various tools, like microlearning platforms, gamification techniques, advanced authoring tools, and virtual reality applications, have repeatedly promised to revolutionize learning. The latest innovation that has captured our interest is AI, exemplified by advancements such as OpenAI's text-to-video model, which demonstrates the capabilities of AI-powered tools. However, amidst this excitement about technology, pausing for reflection is essential.


The role of technology in learning

The effectiveness of tools in improving learning outcomes doesn't solely depend on their complexity or strength but on how they are applied. Historical and contemporary applications of technology within learning and development, ranging from microlearning and gamification to virtual settings and augmented reality, underscore a consistent message: the value lies in effective deployment, not merely in availability. Similarly, Generative AI, with its considerable promise, follows this pattern. The initial astonishment at its functionalities frequently gives way to a practical assessment of its effectiveness in learning and development contexts.
